The Governing Body is responsible for holding Kempsey Primary School to account. We are the key strategic decision makers and vision setters for the School and we have three strategic functions which are:

  • Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos, and strategic direction.
  • Holding the Head Teacher to account for the educational performance of the school, its pupils and the performance of the staff.
  • Overseeing financial performance of the School and ensuring fiscal responsibility

This year our School development plan has focused on four key areas:

  • To provide an innovative, creative and integrated curriculum
  • To raise the profile of Science throughout the school
  • To raise attainment and accelerate progress in English and Maths
  • To embed a system throughout School to support Assessment without Levels

During every meeting the Governors focus upon aspects of this plan and monitors the progress against rigorous targets. We receive detailed reports from the Head Teacher, lead teachers and, where appropriate, other agencies.

Governors regularly visit the School and these visits are key to getting to know the School, its pupils and the staff in depth. Governor visits always have a specific area of focus and can include:

  • New Curriculum and Assessment
  • Data/Pupil Progress
  • SMSC
  • Eco-Schools
  • Science
  • Pupil Premium

Review of 2015/16

The School has continued with its broad and innovative approach to education engaging children’s interest in a variety of ways; through whole school maths events, school planetarium day, trips to churches, mosques, and our neighbourhood to understand the communities we live in, Yr 6 residential trip, increasing opportunities to learn musical instruments or sing in the choir, introduction of the international curriculum and a multitude of sporting events. We are delighted to see the enthusiasm with which the children embrace all these opportunities – their amazing response to the space holiday homework being an exceptional example of their creativity, knowledge and hard work.

This year the Governors have continued to support and challenge the school leadership through meetings of the Full Governing Body, the work of its committees, and ongoing engagement with all the school’s activities. In addition to having our responsibilities for specific areas or topics (maths, english, safeguarding) we have also had the chance this year to build relationships with individual classes. It has been a joy and a privilege for each of us to witness the development of one class of children over the year.

Discussions with our sister-schools to establish a Multi Academy Trust continue to progress and we anticipate this will serve to strengthen the school’s development for the future.

We continue to enhance the school environment with the current building works at the school entrance.

The Governing Board is immensely proud of the pupils and staff of Kempsey Primary School, and will continue to support the Head Teacher, staff and pupils to achieve the very best for every child.
